What in the world is going on cognitively when a person speaks 4+ languages on a daily basis?

Brains are captivating. My research aimed to understand how multilingual individuals navigate all the languages they speak and how that plays into their conceptualization of the ethnobiological world.

The multilingual ethnobiological lexicon provides a window into the mind. The ethnobiological lexicon is a connected system of knowledge involving all languages of a person’s repertoire. One cannot examine just one language of a person’s repertoire and completely understand their ethnobiological knowledge.

I developed an ethnobiological stimuli set to examine the ethnobiological lexicon in 5 of the most common languages in Nyanjida. It focused on participants' lexical choices within and across languages to understand cognitive flexibility, control, and coordination.
